Wexford County Council Offices

The project proposes a building that is integrated with the site and yet retains a robust and independent identity as the headquarters of the County Council. It exerts a presence in the landscape while acting as a reference point when seen from the town and provides both occupants and visitors panoramic views over the estuary. A long public concourse running north to south along the edge of the site contains all of the public facilities and opens to a large external podium. This podium level, a piece of made ground, forms part of an extended public “ground-scape” that also contains planting, seating and the public car park. The bars of office accommodation run overhead on an east west axis intersecting with the internal public concourse. The points of intersection contain the circulation cores, meeting rooms and public counters. The office floors are laid out around a series of staggered, south facing internal gardens and terraces.
